Bandai Namco is a legendary studio, with a heritage dating back to 1955. As an arcade, mobile and home video game publisher, the company is known for titles such as Pac-Man, Soulcalibur, Clash of Titans, Dark Souls, Ace Combat, Digimon and many others. One series in particular that has gained a cult following is third-person puzzle-action video game, Katamari Damacy, first released in 2004 for PlayStation 2.
Since Katamari’s inception, Bandai Namco has gone on to release a long line of very successful titles. In 2008 the collection was extended to mobile with the launch of I Love Katamari on iOS, before being expanding its reach to Windows and Android. The second mobile game in the Katamari series, Katamari Amore, launched in 2011, also produced a large following.
Having launched two successful mobile versions of Katamari, Bandai Namco revealed at Jump Festa 2015 that it was bringing out its third Katamari Damacy mobile game, Tap My Katamari.

Tap My Katamari is a clicker game, set in the strange and quirky universe of sticky balls, tiny green royalty and idle cowbears. Gamers play the role of a Prince, tasked by The King of All Cosmos to restore the universe and its stars, by tapping. The Katamari is a magical ball that makes everything it touches stick to it. As players move through levels, they need to grow their Katamari into a star to restore the universe.
When you aren’t playing the game, there are ‘cousins’ who will roll the ball for you whilst you aren’t playing it. Players are encouraged to use power ups during the game, for both the Prince and the Cousin to help boost them up the leaderboard and increase their speed.
Whilst previous games in the Katamari series were optimised for mobile, Tap My Katamari is the first to be built especially with social mobile gameplay in mind.
Since January 2016, the game has been in soft launch phase to test various features. Bandai Namco turned to GameSparks to power their leaderboards, virtual goods, in-game currencies and social integrations. By being able to easily tweak the game during its soft launch, Bandai Namco has been able to finely tune the game and its gameplay, through A/B tests, to ensure that it delivers a compelling gameplay at launch.
